... in which Wendy is heard to say '1:15th? My arse it's 1:15th'

There was much excitement 'round these parts when it was announced that IKEA were creating a set of dolls house furniture including some of their classic pieces.

I facebooked IKEA last weekend to see when they'd be in stock in Australia and discovered they already were. And, luckily, a friend was in Sydney and planning a trip there.

So you can imagine my excitement when she dropped them over tonight. And the look on my face when I realised they're not 1:15 at all:
(Wendy, in the land of giants...)
Having done some maths, it seems that they are 1:7.76 scale. Or thereabouts.

Anyone want to buy some (almost) Barbie-scale IKEA furniture? Silly me, ordered three sets based on the information I'd read,,,

Hi: Isn't that bookself quite ok in scale?

It's not great for Barbie sized either. I've seen it with Barbie and the sofa is way too small. I think the bookcase could work in both scales.

At least you can probably use a couple if the pieces...the rug, bookcase and maybe the table. Maybe you can cut the legs down on the sofa and chair...they won't be here until sometime in august.

Hi Kikka: Not really as the original is 149 cm high and the mini is 18.5 cm: so 1:8 scale. Although it could work turned on its side...

Mad for Mod: The sofa's plastic so can't easily be cut down: besides the seat's too deep. But yes, I can use the rug if I cut it down, the table, the shelving (on its side)and possibly the cushion. :-/

I also just made a post about these furniture, a few days ago =)
I got so lucky when I first heard about this, I LOVE Ikea =) And the furniture are so cool, but like you said, I was so disappointed when I saw them, no way they will fit my dollhouse =( I counted them to approximately 1:8 scale.. smaller than Barbies 1:6, but some pieces may work in my house anyway?!

Hi Franca

Thank you for your kind words and no need to apologise for your English: it's a lot better than my Italian which runs to about six words: espresso, molto, bene, bella, grazie and Vespa!

Hi
Thanks for the pictures and explaining the scale, there isn't much to go on, on the Ikea site:(
I was so excited to hear about these and have been desperately waiting for the launch in august here in the UK! and now I am not so sure?! I wonder if they work with re-ment stuff :)

I was at IKEA just yesterday and saw the furniture... what a disappointment! Like you I was really excited when I saw it online, but had forgotten all about until I stumbled across it in the shop. It's nicely made though :-)

ARGHH! sigh.

Natalie_myminiworld: I's sure it would work much better with re-ment stuff as 1:7 to 1:8 is much closer in scale to 1:6 than it is to 1:12.

I'm still trying to work out how they chose their scale: 1:15 made sense, as IKEA and Lundby come from the same country... And the fact that IKEA isn't being logical baffles me completely. :-}

Aww nuts. I was so excited for these to come to the US and I'm bummed to see them so big. So sorry you had to learn the hard way, what a disappointment. :( Boo IKEA! I'm dumbfounded why the scale is large.

I have a lundby house, and I hoped it would fi in, too. OK, it is a little bit too big, but I think it would be ok? The bookshelf is quite nice and the table fits, too. I saw pictures with barbie, and found it too small for them.
In my lundby house lives a polly pocket, shes a little bit smaller than the lundby-figures, I think. I will take her to Ikea and try it out today. Shes really keen on the bookshelf...

Anonymous: It'll be way too big: Lundby is 1/18 or 1/16 (I can never remember which) so this is twice the size...

You might want to see if your local newsagent has the Hello Kitty at Home part series: they'd fit :-)
